MMHS’ First Spirit Bowl

The very first MMHS Spirit Bowl was a hit when MMHS students came together Friday to compete in games for the Golden trophy. Five events made up the competition, each event with students from each game that volunteered to play.   The Spirit Bowl stated off with a class cheer off. Seniors, even with the smallest class, yelled their loudest while juniors and sophomore responded with spirited cheers of their own. Following the cheer off, a rowdy game of musical chairs started. With about twenty students running to a row of chairs at the same time, it was a miracle no one

Aimee Vargas, sophomore, is easy to spot in the halls of Maple Mountain High School. Aimee always has a smile and a warm greeting for her fellow students and faculty. Aimee was born with Spina Bifida which is a birth defect that involves the incomplete development of the spinal cord or its coverings. Aimee has felt like she couldn’t do everything she wanted to do until now.

On Tuesday, January 12, the Golden Eagles took on the Red Devils on Maple Mountain’s home court.  Springville took the win with a score of 77-42, but Maple Mountain turned up the heat during the second half and was able to shake up the game.  Though the score wasn’t always evenly matched, Maple Mountain and Springville both scored 50% of their free throws.   Connor Murphy had his highest scoring game of the season scoring 14 points, 9 of which came from 3 point shots.

On Tuesday, January 19, the Maple Mountain High School Varsity Girls’ basketball team had an intense and challenging game against Spanish Fork High School which ended in favor of the Lady Dons 50-43. The Lady Golden Eagles had a slow start against Spanish Fork letting them out score them by six in the first quarter.  But as the game continued, the girls certainly found the motivation they needed to end the second quarter with Maple Mountain outscoring Spanish Fork by 3.

Maple Mountain FFA participated in Primary Children’s Annual Festival of Trees with great success. FFA’s tree theme was, "All things beautiful,” focusing on the many beautiful and productive animals found in agriculture. Of course there had to be tractors at the bottom, barb wire around the outside topped off with a nice Red Barn. The donated tree sold for $500;  all proceeds were donated to Primary Children’s Hospital.
