Aleksa Gappmayer is a sophomore at Maple Mountain High. Something that makes Gappmayer different from everyone else is that she is self-motivated; she likes to get things done. She also enjoys talking and making new friends and serving others. Gappmayer loves playing basketball, and she also enjoys singing. One of Gappmayer’s favorite subjects is History.  She has always loved history and hopes to one day become a history teacher.  In five years Gappmayer sees herself in college working to get her teaching certificate and majoring in history.

Danielle Smith, a senior at Maple Mountain High School, has been interning at Larsen Elementary. Danielle helps with one of the kindergarten classes there. She became interested in this line of work because she loves being around little children and being in a learning environment. She says, “They’re all so cute and sweet.”

Some of the duties she performs are helping the children with their math and sorting, motivating them, organizing papers in their folders, and being their friend.

Senior Braden Elquist has been interning in the radiology department at Mountain View Hospital in Payson.  Elquist wants to pursue a career as a radiologist by attending the University of Utah and majoring in Biology and pre-medicine.

“It’s cool to see inside the body, and it’s something I’ve wanted to do for a long time,” says Elquist.

Maple Mountain senior Alysa Skousen is interning at Park Elementary Preschool in Spanish Fork.  Alysa was interested in this line of work because she loves little children.

“They are at the age where they absolutely love school, they are open to everything you teach them,” said Alysa

Maple Mountain High School performing arts department proudly presents our fall musical, “The Scarlet Pimpernel,” November 19, 20 and 22 at 7 pm in the MMHS auditorium.  Admission will be $5 children and seniors, $7 for students and $8 for adults.  Come and enjoy an evening of music, comedy, action and romance.

Over one hundred Golden Eagle students are participating in the production as cast, crew and musicians!

The musical stars Madison Hurst as Percy Blakeny and the Scarlet Pimpernel.  “A humorous, vein, petty and very passionate character,” said Hurst.

Junior Aimee Vargas has begun playing her second season with the Jr. Wheelin’ Jazz basketball team.  Most basketball fans are familiar with the NBA’s Utah Jazz, but most are not familiar with NWBA’s Jr. Wheelin’ Jazz (www.jr.wheelinjazz.com).  NWBA stands for the National Wheelchair Basketball Association. The Jr. Wheelin’ Jazz is ranked in the top 25 of all Jr. Division teams in the NWBA and they’re headed into their second season of national competition after winning 7th place in Denver last year.   Recently the Jr.

This week’s Maple Mountain High Prep of the Week is Varsity football star, Jace Edmunds.  Whether it’s his passing, rushing, receiving, or defense, you are sure to hear Jace’s name announced during the game and read about him in the newspaper. 

Members of the Maple Mountain High School Dance Company traveled to Cedar City, Utah, from October 7-9 to compete and perform in the dance competition at the Utah Shakespearean Festival. Under the direction of their dance teacher, Karla Palfreyman, their team took 3rd place in the Modern Dance Competition. The dance company also had the opportunity to learn additional dance techniques through workshops and seminars.

Maple Mountain High Prep of the Week is Kendrik Gibson.  Gibson, a junior, currently holds the top boys golf varsity position.  Gibson has been playing golf competitively for four years and his experience has showed this season; he competed at the Utah state golf championship.

Gibson’s favorite place to golf is Hobble Creek golf course; and, his favorite player is Tiger Woods. 

“I’ve been playing my whole life and I’ve always been interested in golf; it’s very fun to play,” said Gibson.
