Maple Mountain boys tennis qualifies at all positions for state

On May 12 - 14 the Maple Mountain boys tennis team competed in the 4A Southern Divisionals played at the Spanish Fork city courts.  It was a tournament to determine which seed players would be in the state tournament and consisted of Regions 7, 8 and 9.  Even though Timpview ran away with every first seed, the Golden Eagles still played tough and qualified in every position.  At first singles Chris Wiscombe qualified as a 7th seed.  Second singles Calder Groberg qualifies 6th. Third singles is sophomore Ryan Porter qualifies at 3rd singles.

April Students of the Month

Maple Mountain High announces April students of the month.

Justin Slavens -- Junior Justin Slavens plans to go on an LDS mission and after returning, to attend Brigham Young University to become an orthopedic surgeon, a history teacher, or a football coach.

Golden Eagle will be a UVU dancer

Kourtney Finch, a drill team member and senior at Maple Mountain High, has made the Utah Valley University dance team.

There are sixteen scholarships available to sixteen individuals, but are not officially given until August.

“At first, I couldn’t believe I had made the UVU dance team. A friend of mine posted the list of who made it (which was posted a week later after tryouts) on facebook; later I saw the list for myself. I felt excited but then scared,” said Kourtney Finch.

Alex Burrows – MMHS Prep of the Week

Junior Alex Burrows is Maple Mountain’s Prep of the Week. Alex went 4-4 in their win against Payson and 10-12 in previous games before. Alex plays 2nd base for the Golden Eagles and has been playing baseball his whole life.  He says his coaches have helped him though this year and would like to thank them for their sacrifice.

His favorite thing about the game is when he pulls off double plays with Colby Jeffers.

His favorite quote is, “If you ain’t first, your last.”
