The Holocaust Assembly

On April 7, Maple Mountain High students had the honor of hearing from Jerry Ments, Army Veteran and Holocaust victim.  Born in Holland in 1930, Ments was ten years old when Germany invaded Holland.  Because he was only half Jewish, he was not a target for the Germans.  He was forced to be the sole bread winner for his entire family, keeping them safe in an abandoned apartment.  He stole everything he could get his hands on to sell on the black market to keep his family afloat.

Tiffany Gomm, a sophomore here at Maple Mountain, is this week’s Prep of the Week. Gomm says she is excited and surprised about being chosen but is glad that her hard work is being noticed. Her favorite track event is hurdles. She likes to hurdle because she is good at it, she says, “They’re fun to do and most people don’t do them.”

She has been in track since the sixth grade and does it because it’s fun, a good stress reliever and you get to meet a lot of new people, including cute boys, and they soon become your best friend. Gomm is also the goalie on the JV soccer team.
