The Maple Mountain High School Ellevés competed at the Region VIII Drill Team Competition held at Spanish Fork High School on Thursday, January 27, 2011. The Ellevés placed 1st in the Military category; 1st in the Dance category, and 2nd in the Kick category. Overall the Ellevés placed 1st and were awarded the Region VIII trophy for the second year in a row. Alexus Poulsen, daughter of Mandy Seow and Neil Poulsen, won 2nd place in the drill down competition.
Three Maple Mountain High School Ellevés were named to the All-Region Drill Team. They are Mikel Jackson, daughter of Chris and Jeri Jackson; Kourtney Finch, daughter of Matt and Kim Finch; and Savannah Martin, daughter of Keith and Tana Martin. Qualifications for this honor were drill team members who have been an active member of drill team for two years or more, having an excellent attitude, unifying the team, going the extra mile, having great sportsmanship, and being respectable and dependable. They must also have above average grades and citizenship.
The Ellevés also had six seniors named to the Academic All-Region Team. To qualify for this award, they must be a senior and have a grade point average of 3.75 or higher. Those making the team were: Makenzie Beardall, daughter of Barbara Beardall and Tim Beardall; Krizia Brooks, daughter of Belen and Tom Brooks; Mikel Jackson, daughter of Jerri and Chris Jackson; Savannah Martin, daughter of Tana and Keith Martin; Alli Monroe, daughter of Cheralyn and Ricky Monroe; and Edynn Shaw, daughter of Kara and Devin Shaw.
The Ellevés would like to thank their parents and all of the students and fans that came to Region and cheered them on to victory! They really appreciate all of the support they have had all year from the MMHS student body.
The Ellevés will now compete in the State 4A/5A Drill Team Competition. The competition will be held on Friday, February 4, at 11:00 a.m. in the UCCU Center at UVU.
