Sports this year has been a challenge unlike any other year. With Covid 19 sweeping through the country, the Maple Mountain Golf Team and its head coach, Johnny Averett, has undoubtedly faced difficulty and limited freedom with practice and tournaments. However, through all this negativity the members of the golf team don't even mention that covid has messed anything up. This is partly because golf is already pretty socially distanced, and also because the team is either super focused on the sport or just really resilient people.

Many students and parents this year thought that all hope was lost for school sports. It seemed impossible to keep everybody safe with the current pandemic. But tryouts for teams were held and the year moved forward as normal. High school sports teams were organized and the seasons started! Sporting events are even allowing spectators, who are expected to wear a mask. Masks are not required for players on the field.
This year the 2020 Maple Mountain tennis team is home to 9 seniors, one of the biggest groups the school has seen in several years. On Thursday, September 17, 2020 the team held a home match against Park city. During this match the seniors experienced their last region match and senior night. Each girl was recognized with her parents and presented with a bouquet of flowers, as well as a necklace. The night was filled with bittersweet tears, laughs, hugs, and victories. Alexis Call said that, “ [she is going to miss] actually playing the sport and working for it.”
Being the youngest in a new school environment is always hard for students to adjust to. It might seem like it's not a big deal for parents or other students, so we wanted to go ahead and ask some of these new sophomore students to see how it really is from their perspective.
Drivers Ed is a class that students at MMHS are required to take if they want their drivers license. Students who take Drivers Ed are required to take a class where they take notes on driving, watch videos and do worksheets. Students learn about defensive driving, drowsy driving, impaired driving, aggressive driving, distracted driving and seatbelts. They also have an intersection assignment and a maintenance assignment. Students also have time on the driving range with instructors to practice driving.
