MMHS January Students of the Month

January students of the month include Ben Harvey, Sarah Lindsley, Joshua Harding, Rachel Warnick, Joshua Gregg and Kaelynn Allred.

Ben Harvey is a senior at Maple Mountain, but he is no regular student.  Ben has been chosen as a student of the month.  Harvey’s favorite hobbies include playing sports, hanging out with friends, and reading.  

In five years he sees himself attending Brigham Young University on a full ride scholarship. What makes him different are a plate and screws in his left leg.  

He says that if he could talk to anyone from history it would be George Washington, to ask him what it would be like to be the father of a country.  His favorite quote is “Whether you think you can, or you can’t, you’re right!”

Sarah Lindsley, senior, has been selected as a student of the month. Lindsley likes making clay pots and cooking various foods. S he also likes to go on adventures with her best friends. She says the funniest times in her life are when she is hanging out with her friends.  

She wants to go to Germany to study abroad because she thinks Germany is very interesting and exciting. She said that if she could have a conversation with anybody from history she would choose Mother Teresa, and she would ask her what her inspiration was in life and if she had any advice for her.  Her favorite subject in school is ceramics because she is able to create all kinds of pots and do something creative and artistic.

In five years Lindsley sees herself about to complete a bachelor’s degree from Utah State University and to accomplish her goal of studying abroad.  Her favorite quote is “Carpe diem,” meaning to ‘seize the day’.     

Joshua Harding is a junior at Maple Mountain High, but he is no regular junior. He likes playing the piano, playing sports, hanging out with friends, and watching movies. In five years he sees himself returned from a mission, studying for college, and hopefully having some great adventures along the way.  

Something that makes him different from everyone else is the dimple he has in his left cheek and his determination to try hard in everything he does.  

He said if he could talk to anyone in history it would be Barack Obama, and he would ask him, “What do you think you’re doing!?”  He said his favorite subject in school is seminary because you get spiritually uplifted and you meet a lot of friends. His favorite quote is, “Wisdom is knowing the right path to take… Integrity is taking it.”

Rachel Warnick has been chosen to be a student of the month for January.   She enjoys running, singing, playing and teaching piano, snow, doodling and eating desserts.  She also enjoys English and biology because of Mr. Mitchell’s 9th grade biology class.   

Rachel was fortunate to travel to Germany.  While Rachel was in Germany, she studied Latin.  Her favorite experience was when a drunk German stole one of her French fries (thinking it was a sample); when told it wasn’t, he tried giving it back. They refused so he tried to pay for it. But, they wouldn’t let him, so he eventually stumbled away.

Joshua Gregg has been selected to be a student of the month for January.  Joshua is a busy student, from hobbies like paintballing, snowboarding, football, and reading to many school activities including Chamber Orchestra.

When Joshua was in third grade he ran into a door, breaking half of his tooth off.   This is one of the funniest things he has done.  At the time it wasn’t funny; but, thinking back, he says it is.  Joshua enjoys activities that others would never think of, “I like peanut butter and cheese sandwiches,” what a sandwich.    

As Joshua makes his way out of high school he plans to serve a mission and attend Brigham Young University.   If Joshua he had the chance would enjoy talking with Neil Armstrong to ask him, “What was it like to step onto the moon?”

Kaelynn Allred is a junior at Maple Mountain.   She enjoys running, sewing, painting, photography and music.  She plays the guitar, violin, and piano; and, she enjoys singing as well.  Along with her hobbies she enjoys science, mainly nature and the function of the human body.

“In my school work, I try not to worry so much about letters on a report card, and I focus more on learning just for the sake of learning. Happiness I feel comes from little, simple things every day. There are a lot more reasons to feel happiness that way,” says Kaelynn.

When Kaelynn was in 7th grade she was giving a presentation in front of her English class, her contact fell out.  She started to crawl around on her hands and knees trying to find it.  She states, “I can’t remember a more awkward silence in my life than that day.”

Kaelynn wants the chance to meet and have a conversation with Eleanor Roosevelt; she would ask where she gained all her wisdom, confidence and courage despite all of her struggles.  “I would also ask her what she thinks is most important in life and if there were anything she would’ve done differently.”
