Every school day, music rings, sings, and strings throughout the B hall of Maple Mountain High. The state-qualifying choirs, orchestras, and bands are busily preparing for the Concerto-Aria Concert. The concert will take place on May 20, 7:00 pm in the Maple Mountain High School auditorium. Admission for the concert is free and the music is sure to delight all in attendance.
Presented by the music department, the Concerto-Aria Concert is a performance of four great, classical works, each featuring a soloist and an accompanying instrumental ensemble. The directors—Cory Mendenhall, Deanne Helquist, and Chris Wilson—auditioned many students and selected four finalists to perform at this concert. Hannah Bateman will perform a viola concerto by Georg Philipp Telemann; Hannah Blonquist will perform a vocal solo by Carlisle Floyd; Elizabeth Engle will perform a vocal solo by W.A Mozart, and Nathan Hurst will perform a marimba concerto by Paul Creston.
In continuing Maple Mountain’s tradition of supporting high-quality classical music in public schools, the music department plans for and presents the Concerto-Aria Concert every year It’s a chance for students to showcase their amazing abilities, and for them—as well as the entire community—to experience truly great music.
