December Students of the Month

MMHS is proud to announce December's students fo the month!

Sophomore Lillian Swan’s favorite quote is, “Nobody can make you feel inferior without your consent.” – Eleanor Roosevelt. She likes this quote because it inspires her to not get mad and feel embarrassed because it is her decision. In five years, Lillian sees herself going to college at BYU for an undergraduate degree preparing to get a medical degree somewhere else.

A few of Lillian’s hobbies are playing basketball, reading, painting, and drawing. She loves being outside hiking, swimming and running. Her favorite subjects in school are art classes because they are really fun, and she loves learning about different styles of art. Currently, she’s in photography and next year she wants to take painting. One thing that sets Lillian apart is how she likes math. Geometry is her favorite, and she doesn’t mind working.

If Lillian could have a conversation with anyone from history, she would talk with Walt Disney and ask him what he thinks of the movies coming out.

Sophomore Connor Lunt’s favorite quote is, “Every adversity and every defeat carries with it the seeds of an equal or greater benefit…if you look for it.”

He likes this because it teaches you to keep pushing forward no mater what. In five years, Connor sees himself in college working on a sports medicine degree.

Connor likes to play soccer and be in the mountains. His favorite subject in school is any type of health class because he finds the way that the body works to be interesting. One thing that sets Connor apart is the many injuries he has had, including a torn ACL.

If Connor could have a conversation with anyone from history, he would talk with Frank Sinatra and ask him to give him singing lessons.

Junior Kourtney Truesdell’s favorite quote is, “Everything is going to be okay in the end; if it’s not okay, it’s not the end.” She likes this quote because this gives her hope and strength. In five years, Kourtney will be in college becoming a registered nurse (bachelor’s degree) and hopefully engaged.

Kourtney’s hobbies include music because she plays guitar and sings. She loves kids; childcare is something she considered as a career. Her favorite subject is Child Development, or any of the health science classes. She loves people, and the science of people. What makes Kourtney different is that she feels pretty normal, but thinks her family is incredible.

If she could talk with anyone in history, she would love to ask Abraham Lincoln how he was able to be so strong in the face of adversity.

 Junior Garret Griffin’s favorite quote is, “The will to win is nothing compared to the will to prepare.” He likes this quote because he is a firm believer that if you put forth your best effort and prepare for your challenges, then good things will happen. In five years, Garret would like to be graduated from high school, coming home from an LDS mission, going to college somewhere, and possibly married.

Garret’s hobbies are basketball, playing guitar and piano, and listening to music.  Chemistry is his favorite subject in school because it is a fun class and can be interesting.

Garret would like to meet Abraham Lincoln because he was an incredible man.

Senior Joslyn Haynie’s favorite quote is, “Change the way you look at things and the things you look at change.” – Wayne Dyer. She likes this one because it can be positive or negative; we just have to choose which. In five years, Joslyn sees herself finishing college after taking a break in the middle.

Joslyn loves to run with Cross Country, hike with family, and read. She also really likes doing things with her friends and playing the violin. Her favorite subject tends to change year to year. She loves orchestra because she likes playing in a group. She also likes sewing and art classes because she gets to make things, and Joslyn really liked her psychology and US History class because she learned so much.

Joslyn’s experiences set her apart from everyone else. She has experienced things that make her want to do well in school. She’s also experienced things that help her realize how important it is to interact with others and enjoy your day.

What is the funniest thing that has ever happened to Joslyn? She says, “When I was eight and still loved sleeping beauty, my parents took my family to Disneyland. I was devastated when we just missed seeing her. My dad asked me to smile just once to break the scowl and I burst out laughing when I did. Now I can’t look at my dad when I’m upset because I will immediately start laughing.”

She would want to have a conversation with William Shakespeare and ask him if he thought his works would become so well known and used even today. She’d also like to see if Shakespeare talked the way he wrote.

Senior Kevin Rose’s favorite quote is, “Two roads diverged in a wood, and I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference.” – Robert Frost

Kevin likes this quote because he thinks about rising above being ordinary. He doesn’t wish to follow everyone else. He wants to take the path that not all people travel. In five years, he will be studying hard to graduate a four-year school with a bachelor’s degree in law or other criminal justice programs and begin his application process into the FBI.

As for a favorite class, Kevin says, “I really enjoy my AP Biology class because I find it fascinating how our cells work in everything we do during the day and how complex our bodies are and how much cellular and molecular activity is going on that we cant even see.”

Kevin loves to play tennis, basketball (with my friends), go to movies, spend time with my family, going out to dinner, staying home and watching TV, and playing videogames on occasion. A few things that set Kevin apart are the many opportunities he’s had to travel the world and experience many types of cultures. He has also traveled to different states competing in large competitive tennis tournaments with players across the nation. He also loves science and math and doesn’t know many people in school that like it as much as he does.

If Kevin could talk with anyone in history, he would like to talk with James Madison and pick through his brain to understand his genius in the establishment of the constitution and the Bill of Rights. Kevin would also like to somehow shadow James Madison as he does his research on government institutions from history.
