Our school has many wonderful clubs. One of these clubs is FCCLA. FCCLA stands for Family, Career and Community Leaders of America. FCCLA is a club based on leadership and service throughout the community. They hold meetings every month called, “Sweets and Service” that include fun times, service oriented activities, and, of course, sweets! We asked each of the officers to describe FCCLA in one word. Brynn Kilpatrick said her word would be, “Service.” Natalie Penni’s word was, “Community,” and Ady Gasser stated that her’s would be, “Family.” Rachel Wasden and Kristi Mendenhall both agreed that their word would be “Fun.”

This year the MMHS FCCLA club has ten officers who have served between 1 and 4 years each. They have all experienced things different from another and have each gained a different perspective. This last month the officers had the opportunity to attend a virtual state conference. There they learned new things about how to become great leaders and how to lead in their own club. Nothing but praise came from the officers after they had attended this conference. Kristi Mendenall remarked that her biggest takeaway was, “It’s so important to get out of your comfort zone and try new things because you learn so much from it.” Brinley Stephenson said that it taught her, “To be a better leader overall, and how to make all members feel welcomed.” Rachel Wasden said she learned how “vital the relationships between members are, and how important it is for the presidency to facilitate the creating and growth of these relationships.”

All the presidents of FCCLA strive to lead their club in a friendly and service oriented manner. Addy Gasser remarked that, “FCCLA has given me a second family. It’s shown me that people from all different groups can come together and create a difference no matter how small!” Through service projects and their recent online conference all the presidents are working to grow their own potential and the potential of the club members.
