ELLEVÉS TAKE REGION FOR THE 2ND YEAR IN A ROW!

The Maple Mountain High School Ellevés competed at the Region VIII Drill Team Competition held at Spanish Fork High School on Thursday, January 27, 2011.  The Ellevés placed 1st in the Military category; 1st in the Dance category, and 2nd in the Kick category.  Overall the Ellevés placed 1st and were awarded the Region VIII trophy for the second year in a row.  Alexus Poulsen, daughter of Mandy Seow and Neil Poulsen, won 2nd place in the drill down competition.

Maple Mountain's girls basketball team jumped out to an early lead and never looked back in a 55-33 victory over Salem Hills in Region 8 action on Friday. The Golden Eagles improved to 12-4 with the victory

SPANISH FORK — Salem Hills broke open a four-point game by outscoring Maple Mountain by 11 in the fourth quarter en route to a 65-50 victory Friday night.

Landon Simonsen recorded a double-double with 24 points and 11 rebounds, while Jake Skinner added a double-double with 17 points and 16 rebounds to lead the SkyHawks.

Champions of the Water

On Friday, January 21, Maple Mountain High swimmers traveled to Uintah in Vernal, Utah, to compete in the Region 8 Championship meet.

Golden Eagle swimmers are Mickaela Allison, AmberLee Bates, Catherine Clark, Erin Davis, Makinsie Davis, Robbyn Hancock, Chole Harlan, TJ Kessiknger, Travis Jacobs, Johanna Jensen, Samantha Jensen, Isaac Nugent, Ben Pendleton, Alicia Pulido, Austin Seamons, Michael Silva, Ethan Snyder, and Taylor Winkel.

Some of the swimmers commented on what they liked most about being on the swim team.

MMHS Prep of the Week—Alexus Poulsen

This week’s Maple Mountain High School Prep of the Week is Alexus Poulsen.  Poulsen is on the Golden Eagles Drill Team, the Elleves.  Poulsen has placed at every competition she has competed in this year.  She placed 4th at the Jordan Beet Classic, 1st at the Utah Valley Classic, and 1st at the Murray Classic--all being Drill–Down Competitions.

Lady Golden Eagles hand it to the Dons

Maple Mountain girls basketball has put out an outstanding record this season after clinching their 11th win while hosting region rival Spanish Fork and taking home the 45-31 win.  Behind a good team defense, Maple Mountain led Spanish Fork throughout the game.  Aleksa Gappmayer’s 13 points and Kara Betts 11 rebounds were vital to the victory.

Golden Eagles lose in OT nail biter

On Friday, January 21, the Maple Mountain boys basketball team battled the Spanish Fork Dons in an overtime thriller.  KJ Hall brought the Golden Eagles within striking distance with a NBA range three pointer. The Dons answered back with a free throw putting Maple Mountain down three.  In the last second, Jace Edmunds sends the game into overtime with a three point buzzer beater. The Dons eventually pulled out the 58-50 win.
