Students at DECA's state competition.

Last week February 24th and 25th our MMHS DECA club competed at the DECA State Convention.  Each student chose a topic and with this topic they are given a role play where they are tasked with resolving a real world issue.  They prep for 10 minutes, and then present their solution to a judge (boss). Judges are business owners in each field.

The following students competed at state: Austin Willson, Spencer Shaw, Madison Millard, Keslee Van Orman, Logan Smith, and Gavin Murray.  They all competed very well in the respective topics with the final results listed below:

  • Gavin Murray: Tested in the top 10%, marketing exam, and took 1st place in retail merchandising.  Gavin will be competing at the national convention in Atlanta, Georgia in April.  Gavin was also offered a job after high school by his judge.
  • Keslee Van Orman: Finished 11th in Apparel and Accessories.
  • Austin Willson: Finished 7th in Quick Serve Restaurant.
  • Logan Smith: Finished top 8th in Sports and Entertainment Marketing

If you see these students please congratulate them for their hard work and great accomplishment.  In these events there can be over 100 other students competing.

MMHS DECA would like to also thank those who participated in the service project “Lifting Hands Internationally.”  Our school took 8th place!
