"An Attitude of Excellence"
"The SAT is the nation's most widely used admissions test among colleges and universities. It tests students' knowledge of subjects that are necessary for college success: reading, writing, and mathematics. The SAT assesses the critical thinking skills students need for academic success in college—skills that students learned in high school.
The SAT is typically taken by high school juniors and seniors. It tells students how well they use the skills and knowledge they have attained in and outside of the classroom—including how they think, solve problems, and communicate. The SAT is an important resource for colleges. It's also one of the best predictors of how well students will do in college.
Each section of the SAT is scored on a scale of 200-800, with two writing subscores for multiple-choice questions and the essay. It is administered seven times a year in the U.S." For more information visit www.collegeboard.com. The schedule for 2009-2010 is listed below:

The PSAT is intended on serving as a practice test for the SAT. It was created and published by the College Board primarily for sophomores and juniors. The test is typically administered the third Saturday in October. The PSAT is also used for the National Merit Qualifying Test which students can later qualify for scholarships based on their results. For more information on the NMSQT visit: http://www.nationalmerit.org/
It is recommended to take this test your sophomore year for practice, and then again as a junior when you are able to use it for the National Merit Qualifying Test. For more information visit: PSAT
As a "pre-ACT" test, PLAN is a powerful predictor of success on the ACT Assessment. PLAN focuses attention on both career preparation and improving academic achievement. The PLAN test is optional for sophomores and is given at the beginning of the year sometime. Counselors will be offering more information in September regarding date and time of the PLAN. In 1999 the Utah State Legislature drafted and passed HB 33. This bill called for the implementation of a basic skills competency test to be given in the 10th grade. In 2000, the need for an exit competency exam was confirmed when the legislature passed HB 177. Hence the UBSCT!
The test is administered twice a year in both February and October. Sophomores take the test in February, while October is used for make-up testing for those students who have not yet passed all three sections. It is required that all three sections be passed to receive a regular high school diploma.
The three sections include math, reading and writing. The mathematics section includes basic arithmetic, algebra and geometry. The reading section includes reading samples followed by multiple choice questions about the samples. The writing section is also multiple choice questions about writing construction and also includes a free-response essay question. For practice exams visit: UBSCT, and ucutips.org/~ubsct/.
