MMHS Ellevés Take Region

The Maple Mountain High School Ellevés competed at the Region VIII Drill Team Competition held at Timpview High School on Thursday, January 23, 2014.  The Ellevés placed 1st in the Military category; 1st in the Dance category, and 1st in the Character category.  Overall, the Ellevés placed 1st and were awarded the Region VIII trophy.  Emily Kessinger, daughter of Bryan and Jana Kessinger, won 1st place in the drill down competition; Bryn Starkey, daughter of Chris and Julie Starkey, won 2nd place in the drill down competition; Laney Melton, daughter of Aaron and Tanya Melton, won 3rd place in the drill down competition; and Brandi Gessel, daughter of Greg and Shannon Gessel, won 5th place in the drill down competition.

Three Maple Mountain High School Ellevés were named to the All-Region Drill Team.  They are Madeline Froerer, daughter of Fritz and Heather Froerer; Laney Melton, daughter of Aaron and Tanya Melton; and Jamie Topham, daughter of Greg and Michelle Topham.  Qualifications for this honor were drill team members who have been an active member of drill team for two years or more, having an excellent attitude, unifying the team, going the extra mile, having great sportsmanship, and being respectable and dependable.  They must also have above average grades and citizenship. 

The Ellevés also had eight seniors named to the Academic All-Region Team.  To qualify for this award, they must be a senior and have a grade point average of 3.7 or higher.  Those making the team were:  Madeline Froerer, daughter of Fritz and Heather Froerer; Hannah Harvey, daughter of Randall and Debbie Harvey; Laney Melton, daughter of Aaron and Tanya Melton; Emily Peery, daughter of Jeff and Julie Peery; Brooke Rawlings, daughter of Shawn and Kari Rawlings; Brynn Shaw, daughter of Devin and Kara Shaw; Bryn Starkey, daughter of Chris and Julie Starkey; and Jamie Topham, daughter of Greg and Michelle Topham.

The “Hero” award, given to one member on each of the drill teams, was given to Brooke Coleman.

The Ellevés would like to thank their parents and all of the students and fans that came to Region and cheered them on to victory!  They really appreciate all of the support they have had all year. 

The Ellevés will now compete in the State 4A/5A Drill Team Competition.  The competition will be held on Friday, January 31, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. in the UCCU Center at UVU.
