Maple Mountain’s Eaglebots took 2nd place at the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics regional competition which included competitors from Idaho, Montana, Utah and Wyoming. The team had to design and create a robot that could hang tubes on racks with three rows and three columns. The top row was nine and a half feet in the air and worth three points.  At the end, the teams could deploy a “minibot” to climb a ten and a half foot pole, this competition was worth 30 points.

As a team they learned about various electronic parts, their functions and purpose. Team members also learned leadership and work skills.  The hardest part of the competition was mechanical stress and failures.

James Eastmond said, “Our robot was better because our arm design was very good. It was simple, effective and light weight.”

Team members included Jacob Carter, James Eastmond, Anthony Carter, Kaden Hendron, Tyler Christensen, Tyler Raindquist, Clark Stevens, Josh Cox, Teron Haynie and Danielle Musick. Their advisors are Rob Eastmond, parent, and Mr. Daniel Dewey, MMHS Physics teacher with additional adult consultant Robert Brown.

Maple Mountain’s FIRST Robotics team was sponsored by JC Penny.
