The Maple Mountain High Ellevés Drill Team competed for the first time in a national competition at the Champion National Dance Competition held in Anaheim, California on March 12, 2011.  The team competed in the following categories:  Military, Jazz Dance, Kick, Hip Hop, and X-Large Ensemble.  Several teams were there competing at the competition including two top 5A teams from Utah.

The Ellevés placed 1st in Military, 1st in Kick, and 1st in X-Large Ensemble categories.  They also placed 2nd in Jazz Dance and 2nd in Hip Hop.  The Ellevés were also awarded a trophy for “Best in Category” for their military routine, therefore making them National Military Champions of the competition.

While in Southern California, the drill team was also able to visit Knotts Berry Farm and Disneyland/California Adventure.  They also had the opportunity to see the Broadway musical “Beauty and the Beast” at the Pantages Theater in Hollywood.  Their trip was very rewarding and wouldn’t have been possible without the help of the parents that traveled with the group as chaperones.

The Ellevés have had a very successful competition season this year and competing at a national competition and doing so well was just “icing on the cake.”  Now the team will prepare for their annual showcase which will be held on April 29 in the MMHS auditorium.  The showcase will feature all of the team’s competition routines as well as a few fun, new routines.  The new 2011-12 Ellevés will also perform.  Plan now to attend and see some award-winning routines performed by an amazing team.
