On Friday, February 4, 2011, the MMHS Ellevés competed in the State 4A Drill Team Competition held at UVU.  The Ellevés placed 2nd in the Military category, 3rd in the Dance category, and 3rd in the kick category.  Overall, the Ellevés were the 3rd place team.  Taking 1st place was Bountiful, 2nd was Bonneville, 4th was Mountain Crest, and 5th was Dixie.  There were fifteen 4A schools competing in each category.

In the dance category, Maple Mountain was actually tied in ranking points with Bonneville High School for 2nd place.  A high and low rank is dropped to determine places, but when there is a tie, all judges’ ranks are counted and this then put Bonneville as 2nd and Maple Mountain as 3rd in the dance category.  If Maple Mountain had placed 2nd in dance, then they would have been 2nd overall.  So, Maple Mountain was very close to taking 2nd place overall!

Three Ellevés were named to the 4A Academic All-State Team--Makenzie Beardall, daughter of Barbara Beardall and Tim Beardall; Mikel Jackson, daughter of Chris and Jeri Jackson; and Alli Monroe, daughter of Ricky and Cheralyn Monroe.  Maple Mountain had three of the ten seniors that were named to the team.  Each 4A school could nominate seniors on their team with a GPA of 3.75 or higher.  The combined average of this year’s 4A Academic All-State Team was 3.987.

Three Ellevés were also named to the 4A All-State Dance Team—Krizia Brooks, daughter of Tom and Belen Brooks; Kourtney Finch, daughter of Matt and Kim Finch; and Savannah Martin, daughter of Keith and Tana Martin.  Each 4A team sent three girls to learn a routine that they auditioned in front of judges and then 22 girls were selected as the 4A All-State Dance Team.   Maple Mountain was one of two schools who had all three of their girls make the team!

Edynn Shaw, daughter of Devin and Kara Shaw, and a senior member of the Maple Mountain Ellevés, won the 4A Drill Team Scholarship.  To win this, Edynn submitted an essay on what drill team has done for her and what her future plans are.

Finally, the Ellevés had two girls place in the 4A Drill Down.  Kimber Creer, daughter of Bradley and Mitzi Creer placed 2nd in the drill down and Alexus Poulsen, daughter of Mandy Seow and Neil Poulsen won 3rd in the drill down.

The Ellevés would like to thank all of the students, parents, administration, and fans who came to State. We really appreciate all of your support this year! We have the best fans! Thanks again for coming and showing your support!
