Maple Mountain student Alysa Skousen has had a chance to work with some very special kids. Alysa interns at Spanish Oaks Elementary with the special-education preschool. She has the opportunity to help, teach, and entertain children in need.  Alysa decided to try this line of work after helping with the peer tutor class last year and decided that her love for the class and for children pointed to this type of work.

She enjoys the opportunity to help children. According to Alysa, “If we can get to the kids when they are still young it will help them for the rest of their lives.” With this said, Alysa would like to continue the internship for another term.

Some of Alysa’s duties include helping with play time, centers, physical therapy, bus entrance and exit, and helping individual students. This internship has been a great experience for Alysa, she exclaims, “every day is a great experience, it just makes you feel great helping these kids. Nothing is better than hearing these kids laugh and seeing them smile.”

Internships are valuable to students who take part in them. Alysa’s internship is no exception. Alysa believes her internship has been valuable, “It gives you hands on experiences with the career of your choice so you can see if you want to do it.” Alysa highly recommends the internship program to all students.
