Maple Mountain FCCLA chapter recently had four of its members compete at the state convention in STAR events.  STAR Events (Students Taking Action with Recognition) are competitive events in which members are recognized for proficiency and achievement in chapter and individual projects, leadership skills, and career preparation.  Shannon Davies, senior, received Silver in Job Interview; Jessica Barson, sophomore, received Silver in Career Investigation; Rebekah Jackson, sophomore, received Gold in Fashion Construction; and, Morgan Smith, sophomore, received Gold in Interior Design.     Shannon Davies, Chapter President, commented about her experience, “The amount of time spent preparing for state was so worth it.  I’m so glad I went; I’m so proud of all of our members.”   FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) is the only leadership club offered to students through grade 12 that focuses on the family.  Two of its purposes are to "strengthen the function of the family as a basic unit of society" and "to provide opportunities for personal development and preparation for adult life."

The FCCLA chapter at Maple Mountain High School has had great success in carrying out these goals during their first year. Many members have helped with service projects.  Some of the service projects included sewing bags and collecting humanitarian items for the relief effort in Haiti, as well as selling “Yuda” wrist bands to raise funds for teens to be educated in Guatemala.
