Maple Mountain FFA attended the State FFA Convention in Richfield Utah on March 13, 14, 15. The eight chapter members that attended had the opportunity to listen to inspirational speakers, be motivated by looking at the state winners, and network with members from throughout the state.  Maple Mountain and some of the students were lucky enough to receive awards.

The Maple Mountain FFA chapter received Superior Chapter status which recognizes FFA chapters that successfully complete an annual Program of Activities (PoA) which includes a series of activities designed to encourage its members to grow as individuals, to work as part of a team, and to serve others.

Malinda Olsen and Taylor Johnson received their State FFA degree, which is the highest degree a state can bestow upon its members. In order to receive this award they have developed and maintained a Supervised Agriculture experience and earned and productively invested $1500 or worked at least 300 hours in addition to giving 25 hours of community service and demonstrating leadership skills.

Shadoe Holm was named the 2012 State Star Greenhand in Placement.  This puts Shadoe in the top 4 of the entire sophomore and junior FFA members He started his SAE when he began working for the family welding business.  In addition he worked for a few local farmers with their cattle herds.  His goals were to become proficient in welding and animal husbandry techniques.  At H2 Welding is able to assist in the fabrication of barns, sheds, panels, and other livestock products. At Murphy Livestock and Spring Creek Farms he has been able to work with cattle and forage production. He recently had the opportunity to start a new job assisting with the South Utah Valley Waste District green waste programs.  He is able to operate the mulching machine turning green waste into useable compost.

Taylor Johnson represented our chapter by running for State FFA office.  She truly showed what a great leader could be and we are proud of her for her hard work and effort in this endeavor.  Although Taylor was not selected we were proud that she went and represented our chapter well.

We are proud of the chapter and the accomplishments they earned while at State Convention.
