Sophomores Adjusting

Submitted by tyler.lewis on

We interviewed Sophomores to find out how they are adjusting to high school, and if they have liked it so far.  We found out that a lot of Sophomores are really enjoying high school, and many like it more than Junior High.  Nathan Nelson says, "I really liked Jr. High, but I think I prefer High School… I also really like having an open campus for lunch, and I'm sure I'll like it even more when I can drive!"

Maelee Croshaw said that the best part of high school was the amount of freedom she had with her classes. She also said that she loved being able to see people again and be social.

Lots of kids also like having the A day B day schedule.  Hallie Rich said, "It gives you more time in your classes, so that you have more time to learn."  Miriam Kelly talks about A/B day schedule and said "It gives you more time to do homework, and it is a much more relaxing day."  Nathan Nelson mentioned that he loves A day and B day schedule, because it makes it so every day is not the same thing.

When we asked sophomores what the most challenging adjustment to high school was from junior high, Hallie Rich talked about height, and how she feels a lot shorter now that she is with all the juniors and seniors.  Miriam Kelly was saying how high school feels basically the same as junior high, the only difference is a longer drive to school.  Nathan Nelson said that the adjustment to high school wasn't too hard for him, but the biggest adjustment was getting used to having longer periods, after having only 45 minute classes in jr. high.

We also discovered that many of the sophomores are enjoying their classes. Students have said that they like their classes and teachers, and that their classes so far are pretty chill and fun!  Hallie Rich says, "I like that the things that I'm learning are actually things I can apply to my future career and education."

Overall, we found out that the sophomores are really enjoying going to school at Maple Mountain High School, and they are adjusting and transitioning well from junior high.
