The MMHS Fine Arts Department is gearing up for the performances of the Maple Mountain High School fall musical, Seussical. The show performs on November 10, 11, and 13 at 7 PM, with a 2 PM matinee on Saturrday, November 11 in the MMHS auditorium.

Based on the well-known works of Dr. Seuss, this musical tells the story of a young boy who doesn’t fit in so he uses his imagination to escape to places where he feels safe and “normal”.

The Boy, who becomes a character—Jojo (Chelsie Hawkes)—in his own imagination’s story, is a young person with a vivid imagination who tries to fit in with those around him. He never quite succeeds in real life, so he often uses his ‘thinks’ to escape into a world that he can watch in story fashion from afar. When the Cat (Anton Moss) pushes him into his own imagined story he learns that he is strong and good enough to be true to himself regardless of whether or not he is accepted by others. Not only does he grow in this personal knowledge, even the characters he has imagined—Horton (Nathan Austin), Gertrude (Sarah Savage), Sour Kangaroo (Cami Roberts), Mayzie (Cassidy Christensen), Mr. and Mrs. Mayor (Jason Metler and Kate Hoffman), General Schmitz (Talon Tippetts) and all the rest—develop a confident sense of self and awareness of others.

Seussical is a show is filled with wild imagination, fascinating, familiar, and beloved characters, as well as spunky music and exciting dance numbers! This incredible cast has been working since early in the school year to bring this production from imagination to reality.
