Sophomore Madeline Palmer’s favorite quote is, “Hardships often prepare ordinary people for an extraordinary destiny.” –C.S. Lewis. In five years, she sees herself in college and after already serving a mission. She thinks it is very important to have a plan, but also to go with the flow of life and be willing to adjust our plans based on what happens to us.

Madeline likes to read, swim, play the piano, hang out with friends, go on adventures, cycle, rock climb, cook, bake, and eat yummy food. One thing that sets Madeline apart is her tenacity and determination. She keeps working, even when it gets really hard and seems impossible. Her tenacity constantly pushes her to do and be the best she can possibly be. She feels like that has helped her succeed and push through things that Madeline thought she would never be able to.

In her own words, Madeline explains the funniest thing that happened to her, “When I was 7, our family was visiting the Getty museum in Los Angeles, California. At that point in my life, I found artwork and museums very mundane. Naturally, I was very bored and I endured hours of my older brothers and parents slowly enjoying the art. Finally, I decided to actually look at the art. I was looking at an exhibit in the middle of the room and being an inquisitive 7 year old; I leaned over to get a little better view of the art. Suddenly the blaring alarm went off in the building. To my horror, the guards cam running towards me, thinking I actually had intentions of stealing something. I was scared to death and thought they were going to throw me in jail. Now, when we are in museums, we joke around about how we should all be careful not to touch anything or we might accidentally set off the alarm.”

English is Madeline’s favorite subject in school because she feels like she can truly express herself when she writes. Writing helps her to convey her thoughts and opinions in a way that would be hard to express verbally. She also loves English because of reading. Reading transports her to places, experiences, and feelings she has never experienced before.

If Madeline could meet anyone in history, she would like to talk to Anne Frank because Anne Frank never ceases to amaze her. Madeline would ask her about how she continued to be positive when so many awful things were going on around her.

Sophomore Matthew Stone’s favorite quote is, “The world is not a wish granting factory.” –The Fault in our Stars. In five years, Matthew sees himself going to college working on getting my medical degree.

Matthew’s hobbies are hanging out with friends, actually doing things, and being proactive. He can’t choose just one subject in school to be his favorite because they’re all equal to him.

If he could meet anyone in history, Matthew would like to meet the Chief of the Aztec Empire. He would want to know what life was like for them, how they lived, and what they believed in.

Junior Kyra Scott’s favorite quote is, “Be the change you wish to see in the world.” –Mahatma Gandhi. In five years, Kyra sees herself in college and possibly playing college basketball. She wants to be moved out and living in her own apartment with roommates. She would like to get a good job, possibly at a bank.

Kyra likes to play basketball and cook. She also likes to sing and sew. Her favorite subject in school is history because you get to learn about the way things used to be and why they did things the way they did.

What makes Kyra different is that she is a very independent person. She takes pride in doing things for herself, and she loves to help other people

Kyra said the funniest thing that happened to her was, “one time I went to a smoothie place called Jamba Juice and when I came out to get in my moms car, I got into someone else’s car and a guy was sitting in the drivers seat.”

If she could talk with anyone in history, she would love to talk with Abraham Lincoln. She would ask him how he became so successful, and how can she change things in her life to become successful.

Junior Daniel Tolley’s favorite quote is, “If the doors of perception were cleansed everything would appear to man as it is, infinite.” – William Blake. Daniel’s favorite subject in school is math. It always comes naturally to him, makes sense, and there is always a definite answer.

Daniel’s hobbies include reading, swimming, skiing, ballroom dancing, and having intellectual debates with intelligent people. Something interesting about him is that he enjoys teaching math and science to his peers.

Daniel would like to meet Isaac Asimor and ask, “How did you come up with your ideas in science fiction?”

Senior Caitlyn Phelps’ favorite quote is, “Think positive, be positive, and positive things will happen.” She likes being happy, and she always has a better day when she has a good attitude. In five years, Catilyn sees herself finishing up college, figuring out a career, and maybe getting married and starting a family. Her favorite subject in school is English because she always understands it, and it comes easily to her.

Caitlyn’s hobbies include track, cross-country, piano, and spending time with her family and friends. The funnies thing that ever happened to her was at a track meet. She said, “You would’ve had to be there, but at one of my track meets one of my friends from another team gave me some Gatorade chews. They pretty much made me crazy.”

Something that sets her apart is that she constantly laughs. She also constantly looks for a way to personally excel at what she does.

Caitlyn would want to have a conversation with Anne Frank. She would ask Anne to personally tell Caitlyn her story.

Senior Reagan Thompson’s favorite quote is, “Only you can decide what kind of person you will be.” It’s his favorite quote because it says that people decide everything for themselves. Reagan sees himself in five years working as a deputy sheriff because that is his goal.

Reagan’s hobbies include reading, driving, and developing new skills. According to him, “some things that set me apart other than the way I dress, I would say it’s my unique personality.” His favorite class is law enforcement because it’s his dream to become a police officer, and he thinks that class is wonderful.

The funniest thing that happened to Reagan was walking into Krispy Kreme and it was filled with police officers.

If Reagan could talk with anyone in history, he would talk with Ronald Reagan. He would ask how he managed to become one of the greatest leaders in history.
