The Maple Mountain High School Ellevés competed at the Region VIII Drill Team Competition held at Maple Mountain High School on Thursday, January 24, 2019. The Ellevés placed 1st in the Military category; 1st in the Dance category, and 1st in the Kick category. Overall the Ellevés placed 1st and were awarded the Region VIII trophy. Four Ellevés placed in the drill down. Abbie Jackson, daughter of John and Kallie Jackson, placed 5th, Carlie Tippets, daughter of Mike and Angie Tippets, placed 3rd, Brynn Belka, daughter of Byron and Monica Belka, placed 2nd, and Kacey Melton, daughter of Aaron and Tanya Melton, placed 1st.
Three Maple Mountain High School Ellevés were named to the All-Region Drill Team. They are Valerie Friant, daughter of Craig and Jadean Friant; Baylee Hite, daughter of Chaden and Marci Hite; and Kacey Melton, daughter of Aaron and Tanya Melton. Qualifications for this honor were drill team members who have been an active member of drill team for two years or more, having an excellent attitude, unifying the team, going the extra mile, having great sportsmanship, and being respectable and dependable. They must also have above average grades and citizenship.
The Ellevés also had seven seniors receive the Academic All-Region award. To qualify for this award, they must be a senior and have a grade point average of 3.7 or higher. Those receiving the award are: Annika Christensen, Valerie Friant, Baylee Hite, Kacey Melton, Jentrie Reid, Gabi Smith and Carlie Tippets.
The “Hero” award, which is given to one member on each of the drill teams, was given to Carlie Tippets.
The Ellevés would like to thank their parents and all of the students and fans that came to Region and cheered them on to victory! They really appreciate all of the support they have had all year.
The Ellevés will now compete in the State 5A Semi Finals Drill Team Competition. The competition will be held on Tuesday, January 29, 2019, at 4 p.m. in the UCCU Center at UVU. The State 5A Finals will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2019, at 10 a.m. in the UCCU Center at UVU. Good luck Ellevés at State!
