MMHS is proud to announce the March students of the month!

Emily Johnson
What is your favorite quote and why?
“Just keep swimming”. –Dory. I don’t like to worry about hard things. I just want to move forward.

Where do you want to see yourself in five years?
Driving a Jeep and living on the coast. I want to go to Oregon for college. 

What are your favorite hobbies?
Drawing or creating new things and going to the gym. 

What is the funniest thing that has ever happened to you?
My best friend came to me at 5:00 in the morning, and we made my mom a birthday breakfast and played Life. It was super fun. 

What makes you different from everyone else?
I walk on my hands every day. 

If you could have a conversation with anyone from history who would it be and what would you ask them?
I would ask Walt Disney how he came up with Mickey Mouse. 

What is your favorite subject in school and why?
Art, I love drawing and creating new things. 

Thomas Bastian
What is your favorite quote and why?
“Life is like a bike, to keep your balance you have to keep moving.” –Unknown. I like this because it applies to everyone. Life gets tough, you gotta keep moving. 

Where do you want to see yourself in five years?
I hope to be returning from an LDS mission and on a collegiate soccer team. 

What are your favorite hobbies?
I enjoy painting, drawing, skiing, and playing soccer. 

What is the funniest thing that has ever happened to you?
Funny things are always happening to me so nothing really stands out. 

What makes you different from everyone else?
I am half French, bilingual French and English, and I am a national champion. 

If you could have a conversation with anyone from history who would it be and what would you ask them?
I would just like to have a discussion about anything with Albert Einstein. 

What is your favorite subject in school and why?
My favorite subject is art, and I like art because it doesn’t really feel like school. It’s a break in the middle of the day where you can just create things. 

Kayla Fillerup
What is your favorite quote and why?
“Why did she make things? Well, she enjoyed, of course; but it also somehow helped her remember who she was and where she came from.” I like this quote because sometimes we find ourselves in what we love doing, and that’s the most important part in the end. 

Where do you want to see yourself in five years?
In college, studying the arts, making the art, doing what I am going to be proud of. 

What are your favorite hobbies?
I LOVE art. I love being able to express myself through creativity and technique. I’m very passionate about what I do and how I do it. 

What is the funniest thing that has ever happened to you?
I went to New York with a few of the creative art students here at Maple Mountain High and enjoyed every single minute I had there with them.

What makes you different from everyone else?
I don’t think anybody is as in love with art as I am. Art is who I am and I don’t think I would be where I am without it.

If you could have a conversation with anyone from history who would it be and what would you ask them?
I would ask Martin Luther King Jr. to tell me how important it is to follow your dreams.

What is your favorite subject in school and why?
AP Studio Art! It’s my favorite place to be during the day. It gives me the ability to relax and have fun.

Christopher Baugh
What is your favorite quote and why?
“A ship in Harbor is safe, but that is not what ships are built for.” –Anonymous 

Where do you want to see yourself in five years?
In college.

What are your favorite hobbies?
I like to draw, paint, ski, mountain bike, camp, play video games, and read.

What is the funniest thing that has ever happened to you?
A cop told me my fly was down once.

What makes you different from everyone else?
I keep it real 24/7, and I had two heart surgeries.

If you could have a conversation with anyone from history who would it?
I would talk with Leonardo da Vinci because he was a smart guy.

What is your favorite subject in school and why?
Art because it allows me to express myself creatively.

Anna Bird
What is your favorite quote and why?
“It had long since come to my attention that people of accomplishment rarely sat back and let things happen to them. They went out and happened to things.” – Leonardo da Vinci. I love this because it reminds me if I work hard and try to accomplish my goals, I will be successful.

Where do you want to see yourself in five years?
In five years, I hope to be pursing my master’s degree in fine art. I hope to study art in Europe during this time and show my artwork in galleries.

What are your favorite hobbies?
My favorite hobbies are painting, drawing, reading, photography, and finding adventure in nature.

What is the funniest thing that has ever happened to you?
I’ve been sprayed by a skunk!

What makes you different from everyone else?
I love old, traditional fine art. I’ve traveled around the U.S. with my father meeting new artists and visiting new galleries. I’ve been offered a space in the “Gallery Elite” in Carmel, California, and I’m the MMHS visual arts Sterling Scholar.

If you could have a conversation with anyone from history who would it be and what would you ask them?
I would have a conversation with Michelangelo. I would ask him how he accomplished the artwork that he did, and I would ask him about his goals and his work ethic.

What is your favorite subject in school and why?
I love my AP studio art class and my CE photo class. I love them because I can truly be myself and let my creativity flow. In other classes, I feel constrained and limited. 

Chantry Dean
What is your favorite quote and why?
“At this moment you’re the oldest you have ever been and the youngest you will ever be.” I like this because it shows that life is short, live it while you can.

Where do you want to see yourself in five years?
In five years I see myself living in a house running my own mechanic shop and selling pottery on the side.

What are your favorite hobbies?
Some of my favorite hobbies are ceramics, working on cars, and playing sports.

What is the funniest thing that has ever happened to you?
My friend and I accidently drove through a hay field, but it really was an accident.

What makes you different from everyone else?
I think that my outlook on life is what makes me different. I always see the glass half full!

If you could have a conversation with anyone from history who would it be and what would you ask them?
I would want to have a conversation with Robin Williams and just tell him how amazing his movies are and how much effect he has had on my life.

What is your favorite subject in school and why?
My favorite subject in school is ceramics because I love playing with clay and creating artwork out of it.
