Maple Mountain High School Ellevés Take 2nd in Region

The Maple Mountain High School Ellevés competed at the Region VIII Drill Team Competition held at Salem Hills High School on Thursday, January 28, 2016. The Ellevés placed 1st in the Military category; 2nd in the Dance category, and 2nd in the Character category. Overall, the Ellevés placed 2nd and qualified to compete in the State 4A Semi Finals on Thursday, February 4. Emily Kessinger, daughter of Bryan and Jana Kessinger, won 1st place in the drill down competition, Mallory Ross, daughter of Jeff and Lisa Ross won 3rd place, and McKenna Bate, daughter of Bud and Kelly Bate won 5th place in the drill down competition.

Three Maple Mountain High School Ellevés were named to the All-Region Drill Team. They are Claire Bastian, daughter of James and Isabelle Bastian; Emily Kessinger, daughter of Brian and Jana Kessinger; and Tori Little, daughter of Leron and Kellie Little. Qualifications for this honor were drill team members who have been an active member of drill team for two years or more, having an excellent attitude, unifying the team, going the extra mile, having great sportsmanship, and being respectable and dependable. They must also have above average grades and citizenship. 

The Ellevés also had seven seniors named to the Academic All-Region Team. To qualify for this award, they must be a senior and have a grade point average of 3.7 or higher. Those making the team were: Claire Bastian, daughter of James and Isabelle Bastian; Jessica Beardall, daughter of Barbara Beardall; Jill Ekker, daughter of Leslie Ekker; Madi Ellis, daughter of Thad Ellis and Christie Ellis; Makenna Ellis, daughter of Thad Ellis and Christie Ellis, Tori Little, daughter of Leron and Kellie Little and Emily Kessinger, daughter of Brian and Jana Kessinger.

The “Hero” award, given to one member on each of the drill teams, was given to Jill Ekker, daughter of Leslie Ekker.

The Ellevés would like to thank their parents and all of the students and fans that came to Region and supported them. They really appreciate all of the support they have had all year. 

The Ellevés will now compete in the State 4A Semi Finals Drill Team Competition. The competition will be held on Thursday, February 4, 2016, at 10 a.m. in the UCCU Center at UVU. The State 4A Finals will be held on Saturday, February 6, 2016, at 5 p.m. in the UCCU Center at UVU. Good luck at State, Ellevés!
