Last month our Maple Mountain High Lady Golden Eagles, Ellevés, competed at the Murray Classic drill team competition.  Maple Mountain placed first overall in the 4A division which had 15 schools from around the state competing.  The Lady Golden Eagles placed first in military, dance, and kick. They also placed second in hip hop.  Along with the overall 4A trophy, the Ellevés won the exceptional technique award from the judges.

In company with the drill team competitions, there is a drill drown. A drill down is like the game Simon Says in which the head person will call out a command and the girls are to follow.  If you are off or are confused, you are out.  In this competition, Maple Mountain had two girls who placed. Junior, Aubrey Finch placed third and senior Alexus Poulson placed first in 4A.

Aubrey Finch has been dancing since she was three years old and says the reason she loves to dance is because it is a way to express all her emotions. In the future, Finch wants to become a RNA. Alexus Poulson has been dancing since she was eight years old and loves to dance because it is a way to express herself and she loves it. In the future she wants to join a college dance team. Their key to success is to just focus and tune others out.
