Golden Eagles Soar at Simplot

On Monday, February 21, Maple Mountain runners came alive in Pocatello, Idaho, at the 2011 Simplot games.  The Golden Eagles competed amidst many high schools from around the country.  Overall, Maple Mountain cross country did very well.

On the boys side, Spencer Hanson placed 5th in the 3200 meters with a time of 9:31.34. Lance Merrell, Kevin Muirbrook, Paxton Patey, and Jonah Hadlock placed 5th in the 4x800 relay with a school record time of 8:31.34. Isaac Faux, Eddie Prothero, Cameron Carson, and Kevin Muirbrook placed 9th overall in the boys medley relay with a time of 3:47.34, which improved the #1 indoor time by 10 seconds. The boys Medley “B” relay of Tucker Austin, Nate Vance, Jonah Hadlock, and Lance Merrell just missed finals running a great time of 3:55.86. Isaac Faux finished 14th overall in the 1600 with a time of 4:35.47. Lance Merrell also placed 14th overall in the High Jump with a jump of 5’ 11”. Cameron Carson, Tucker Austin, Kevin Muirbrook, and Eddie Prothero ran a time of 3:47.57 in the boys 4x4 relay.  In the hurdle race, Eddie Prothero ran a personal record time of 9.29 and Tucker Austin ran a 10.22. In the 1600 meters Nathan Vance ran a personal record of 5:00.69, Paxton Patey ran a 4:51.27, and Jonah Hadlock ran a 4:55.29. Cameron Carson ran the 60 meter dash in a time of 7.50 seconds. Kevin Muirbrook participated 400 meters.  Zach Decker finished out for the boys, participating in the shot put and the weigh throw.

On the girls side, our 4x200 relay of Christine Heyn, Megan Elmont, Tiffany Gomm, and Jensen Williams set our school record in this event with a time of 1:55.65. The 4x400 relay of Katie Bennett, Bobbe Graham, Rachel Warnick, and Brigette Harris ran a 4:45.00. The Medley “A” relay of Christine, Megan, Jensen, and Rachel set our #1 indoor time of 4:44.29. The Medley “B” relay of Tiffany, Katie, Bobbe, and Brigette ran a time of 5:05.50.  In the 1600 Rachel Warnick achieved a personal record with a time of 5:57.75 and Brigett Harris also with a personal record time of 6:04.91. In the 200 meters Megan Elmont and Christine Heyn ran the times of 29.10 and 29.35 respectively. Tiffany Gomm took on 60 meter hurdles running a time of 10.52. In the 400 meters Jensen Williams led the way for the eagles running a 62 followed by Katie Bennett who ran a 68 along with Bobbe Graham who ran a 69.

All the runners who participated in this event did exceptionally well among the national competition. This was a wonderful opportunity for the Golden Eagles to race against some of the best runners in the country.
