Maple Mountain's girls basketball team jumped out to an early lead and never looked back in a 55-33 victory over Salem Hills in Region 8 action on Friday. The Golden Eagles improved to 12-4 with the victory

"This was the best team effort of the year," said Maple Mountain coach Cory Green.

Maple Mountain got off to a quick start as Aleksa Gappmayer's 3-pointer at the first quarter buzzer put her team up 11-8. Gappmayer finished with 13 points, and was critical on both ends of the court against Salem Hills.

Jessica Benson led the way for Maple Mountain with 16 points, including two 3-pointers in the second quarter.

Trailing 25-14 at the half, Salem Hills opened the third quarter on a 7-0 to cut the deficit to 25-21. The Golden Eagles recovered quickly though to build the lead back to 39-27 heading into the fourth quarter.

Green was very pleased with his team's rebounding against the taller Skyhawks, as well as the overall team defense.

Baylee Nielsen chipped in with eight points and 10 rebounds for Maple Mountain, which returns to action next Friday at Payson.
