Ellevés Take 4th At State 5A Drill Competition

On Thursday, February 1, 2018, the MMHS Ellevés competed in the State 5A Semi Finals Drill Team Competition held at UVU.  Teams were placed in “pods” of four based on their placement from region competition.  Two teams from each pod advanced to the finals.  The Ellevés were one of the two teams who advanced to the finals from their pod.

On Saturday, February 3, 2018, the Ellevés competed in the finals and placed 3rd in the military category, 3rd in the dance category, and 4th in the character category.  Overall Maple Mountain placed 4th.  There were nine 5A schools competing.

In the 5A Drill Down competition, Kacey Melton, daughter of Aaron and Tanya Melton, won 2nd place over all.

Three Ellevés were named to the 5A All-State Dance Team—Tiffany Asay, daughter of Dwayne and Suzanne Asay; Hannah Finch, daughter of Matt and Kim Finch; and Annie Merrill, daughter of Chris and Melisa Merrill.  Each 5A team sent three girls to learn a routine that they auditioned in front of judges and then 16 girls were selected as the A All-State Dance Team.  At the State Finals, each member of the All-State Team performed a short, self-choreographed routine and was given a medal.

Two Ellevés were named to the 5A Academic All-State team— Tiffany Asay, daughter of Dwayne and Suzanne Asay and Hannah Finch, daughter of Matt and Kim Finch.  Each 5A school could nominate seniors on their team with a GPA of 3.75 or higher.  Only ten seniors are named to this team.  The combined average of this year’s 5A Academic All-State Team was 3.996.

Tiffany Asay was also awarded the 5A UDDA Drill Team Scholarship.  This award is based on an essay she wrote and submitted.

Ellevé Coach Molly Brenchley was awarded the 5A Coach of the Year award.  She has been coaching for the past 27 years—8 years at Maple Mountain since the school opened and 19 years prior to that at Payson High.

The Ellevés would like to thank all of the students, parents, administration, and fans who came to State. We really appreciate all of your support this year!
