Maple Mountain High School had many students who participated in the 2010 Reflections contest. This year’s theme was “Together We Can.” Students submitted work in the following categories: 3-D Art, Photography, Dance, Theater, Music, Literature, and Visual Art.
Jamie Farley, a senior at Maple Mountain High School, interns at Revolution Manufacturing, a snowboard factory. Farley is faced with many tasks including researching on the computer and even helping produce snowboards in the factory.
Farley says, “I love snowboarding and that is the line of business that I want to go into in the future. I’m more interested in the fashion and clothing side of the snowboarding business though. I am still really interested in this line of work. It’s something I’m really passionate about, and I know that it’s what I want to do in the future.”
Maple Mountain junior Tyler Clement is working an internship at IO Stream Solutions. IO Stream Solutions is a website development company in Provo. Tyler says that web designing is a fun and exciting field of work that comes easily to him.
“For the first couple of weeks I worked in marketing. This was fun because it was new and I hadn’t done it before. Now, I’m coding different websites, like Mod Bod and others,” said Tyler.
Tori Nielsen, a senior at Maple Mountain, is currently interning at Mapleton Junior High School. While at MJHS, Nielsen observes the teacher, Mrs. Gleave, teaching math to her students. Some of her duties as an intern are to help students with their math problems when they have questions or don’t understand.
Nielsen says she is interested in this line of work because, “I have been around amazing teachers my whole life. They have had such an impact on my life, and I would love to do that for someone else.”
Austin Rowley, a junior at Maple Mountain High, was chosen as the MMHS Prep of the Week for his exceptional wrestling ability and unbeaten record. Recently, the wrestling team won the Millard Iron Man in which Rowley defeated past state champions en route to a 10-0 tournament record.
The Golden Eagle Cross Country team rose above for the final race of their season in Walnut, California. The four day trip consisted of a twelve hour bus ride to southern California, with few stops, a beach party in the fog, a trip to Disneyland, and of course the Western Regional race known as Footlocker.
On Tuesday, December 7, the Lady Golden Eagles Girls basketball team defeated the Timpview Thunderbirds 48-31. Sadie Williams lead the team with 14 points and 3 steals, followed by Aleksa Gappmayer with 11 points. Baylee Nielsen also contributed with 12 rebounds. The Golden Eagles pulled away in the second half outscoring the Thunderbirds 29-13. Their 3-0 record has earned them a number 20 ranking in the state.
On Friday, December 3, Hannah Savage competed in the “Make It With Wool” Utah state contest and won 2nd place in the Senior category. S he created and exhibited a houndstooth (a duotone textile pattern) knee length coat.
“The contest went really well and was a lot of fun,” said Savage
To compete in the contest you must construct an article of clothing to be presented in front of a panel of judges. Contestants must model the article of clothing and answer questions about the piece of clothing and the experience.
On Tuesday, November 23, Chris Wilson (Marketing and PR Manager for the BYU Museum of Art) spoke to students at Maple Mountain high about careers in the art field.
Wilson was invited to speak as part of the “Window on the Workplace” monthly lecture series sponsored by Maple Mountain High’s Internship Program. “Window on the Workplace” focuses on inviting professionals from various careers into the school to speak to students about future job opportunities.
On Wednesday, December 8, the Maple Mountain Golden Eagles took on the Timpview Thunderbirds at home.
